New Jersey’s standards for math and English education will aim to give students a deeper understanding of key concepts, if the state adopts proposed national requirements, officials said Wednesday.

Singing along with Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It,“ hundreds of teachers, schoolchildren and supporters rallied at the state Capitol yesterday to protest proposed cuts in K-12 education. The rally, the brainchild of an Orange County school bus driver, drew educators from counties across the state, such as Hanover and Henrico, Pulaski, Westmoreland and Fairfax.

School districts in Colorado will be required to notify parents when a school employee is arrested or when police charges are filed against them under an initial draft proposal by the state Board of Education.

Over the years, education funding plans in the state of Vermont seem to have had a shelf life of approximately 10 years.
